Job Description

The Pastry Chef will oversee and participate in the preparation and execution of all baked goods at the Essex Resort Holdings. This role requires a strong commitment to food quality and dining experience, exceeding customer expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and participate in the preparation and execution of all baked goods.
  • Maintain open communication with all kitchen staff to ensure smooth operation.
  • Conduct training programs for kitchen personnel and ensure proper maintenance of equipment.
  • Inspect portion sizes and taste qualities to ensure proper preparation.
  • Monitor all refrigeration and dry storage for proper handling and rotation.
  • Develop new dessert menus for restaurants, banquets, and special functions.
  • Coach and teach all staff members to maintain a high standard in the Pastry Kitchen.
  • Consult with brides/grooms with wedding cake orders and monitor incoming food products for quality control.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years baking experience and a graduate from a culinary school.
  • Five years culinary experience in a multi-unit hotel or conference center.
  • 2+ years of advanced cake decorating and well-versed skills in plated desserts, display pastries, breads, artisan goods, etc.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, food products, and food service equipment.
  • Previous experience supervising a staff of 5 or more employees.
  • Able to work flexible hours and days.
