Job Description: Engineer II - DAS (Distributed Acoustic Sensing)

We are looking for an Engineer II to join our Instrumentation - Engineering Design department at the EarthScope Consortium. This role involves managing and implementing multiple field projects related to geophysical instruments and networks. The Engineer II will work on logistics, field operations, instrumentation design, and technical documentation to ensure that projects meet organizational standards and best practices. This position will collaborate with team members and represent the organization to stakeholders and community members.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement individual geophysical projects and assist with multiple projects.
  • Identify and solve technical issues related to geophysical sensors and data.
  • Assist in the design and testing of new systems.
  • Evaluate instrument design and data for system improvements.
  • Document activities and metadata using established protocols.
  • Prepare technical reports and project documentation.
  • Collaborate with other departments on joint projects.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community members and partners.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering, geosciences, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience with geophysical sensors or networks.
  • Experience with data quality analysis software is preferred.

  • Technical knowledge of geophysical sensors and tools.
  • Proficiency in hand and power tools.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work in challenging field conditions and diverse locations.

Other Requirements:

  • Availability for travel and field operations, with safety training.
  • Valid driver's license and passport.
  • Ability to meet physical qualifications for specific deployments.
