Job Description

Professional Engineering Consultants (PEC) is seeking an Experienced Construction Inspector to join our team in Topeka, KS. As a Construction Inspector, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with regulations and contract specifications for various construction projects, including civil, municipal, architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines, both new construction and renovations.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect various types of construction projects to ensure compliance with regulations and contract specifications.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, including infrastructure, transportation, subdivision, and site plans.
  • Complete and maintain daily/weekly inspection reports, track contractor pay item quantities, review contractor pay estimates, schedule and observe testing, and conduct final inspections.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with employees, managers, representatives from other departments, and organizations.
  • Investigate and respond to citizen complaints regarding construction sites or related ordinance violations.
  • Provide materials testing, such as nuclear density testing and/or concrete field testing, as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Five or more years of construction inspection experience preferred.
  • KDOT Inspection Experience preferred.
  • KDOT CITT and American Concrete Institute (ACI) Certifications preferred.
  • Knowledge of methods, practices, and techniques of civil construction and commercial development.
  • Considerable skill in reading and interpreting construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Ability to prepare, organize, and maintain inspection field and office data, reports, and systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and PDF.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license.

Tools, Equipment, and Software Used

  • Smartphone, scan/copy machine, computer, motor vehicles.
  • Ability to operate personal computer, including Bluebeam Revu PDF technology, and Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience in operating tape measures, levels, pressure gauges, testing equipment, engineering calculator, and motor vehicles.
